Super Prison Plans for Hei Ling Chau

When I first saw this, I thought it was a spoof....but it's not.  There is a Government discussion document going around - I have not attached it because at 944KB it might be rejected by some corporate servers, but please mail me if you want a copy.  The implications for us are horrendous.  The plan involves reclamation between Hei Ling Chau and Sunshine Island and a fixed crossing to link a newly built "Super-Prison" to Lantau.  Mui Wo will be changed beyond recognition and, for those of you who face South out of DB, you can look forward to having this eye-sore blotting the landscape for ever and to having your sailing area even further restricted.

There is an active campaign to lobby against this idea and your Committee is in wholehearted support of this action.  It would be extremely useful to the campaign if you could add your voice individually before the Legco Meeting  (May 16th) through one of several ways:

  1. You can write a letter to SCMP (scmplet@scmp.com) or any other media publication (especially Chinese if anyone can do it) - I attach 2 sample letters which would be a good basis for this. (letter_1, letter_2)
  2. You can e-mail letters to the HK Govt Finance Committee (who is conducting the feasibility).  Send letters to pi@legco.gov.hk but make sure you mark it for attention of Finance Committee members (before May 16th).
  3. You can write to all Legco members individually - e-mail addresses can be obtained from the Legco Autofax - 2869-9568.  Alternatively you could address your letter generally to Dear Hon. Member and then deliver 60 hard copies to the LegCo building in Statue Square - go to the public entrance and they will send them round by despatch the same or next day.

We are all busy, but if anyone from the Club feels strongly that they would like to coordinate our response to this, could you please let me know as soon as possible.  Otherwise I strongly encourage you to formulate an individual message and send via one or more of the above methods - many of our Club Members already have.

If you wish to contact the Campaign Coordinator, then please be in touch with Lisa Hopkinson - tel 9805 2323; lisah@civic-exchange.org

Spring Dinner - All the evidence is on the web-site!

Need I say more?....what an excellent evening we had with well over 60 revelers enjoying the party.....and the pool!

Perrier Sunshine Island Cruise - Sunday 25th May

Keep the diary free - should be a good day out.  Make use of Sunshine Island whilst we can!  More detail to follow next week.

Hobie 20 - 1/3 share on offer

A 1/3 share in Chris Steilberg's multi-winning Hobie 20 'Hah' is up for grabs.  If you are interested in performance multi-hull sailing, this is a good and very cheap way to get involved.  For details contact Chris at:  steily@bluebottle.com

That's all for now.  Have a great weekend.
