LBC Committee Meeting, 2 November 2005

Present: Richard Carrey, Michele Felder, Steve Wallace, Henrik Kolding, Joe Shieh
start 19:45pm, Residents Club
Date: November 2nd 2005

1. Regatta Review

  • Prizes (antique style instruments) looked great. Would be better to have class and place engraved on
  • Cavern was a good venue for the party, outside space very good, great deal on food + show ($200). Drinks expensive
  • Doing kit bags the day before handout made it easier
  • Must get more small / medium shirts
  • We sold half the stock of spray jackets
  • Kit was very good quality
  • Catering was very good, especially Philippe, and having sandwhiches both days. Res Club needed to refill the buffet more
  • We overlooked getting a photographer for prizes. Res Club helped, but result was not too good
  • Is it possible to include the price of the prize giving dinner next year?
  • Must put out results for review before prize giving
  • Need to start racing quicker - have boat boys set course whilst briefing
  • RO needs more preparation on choosing course - get more advice from Awah
  • Volunteers need more practice on timing
  • Safety was very good
  • FH bouys were hard to see
  • Must get bigger flags and green flag for port rounding
  • Trimarans were ok, though a bit slow at finishing
  • stickers were a problem - DB too big and peeled off very quickly
  • HKR should do more at the even if they want to use the publicity

2. Lloyds TSB want to sponsor the club more through the year. Ideas :

  • sponsor Cheung Chau Challenge
  • new sails for some boats, with their logo
  • series with special skills, more fun stuff to get more people there
  • pay for some of the hut and put their sign up
  • sponsor an open day

3.Xmas Ball

  • $600 per person, Ladies Recreation Club, 3rd Dec
  • want 120 people. 10 tickets given to each committee member to sell
  • Offer free to Philippe, Bo, Kevin, FH, Awah
  • Should we have mahjong?
  • Venue has little room for a band

4. Round the island race

  • 13th Nov. Awah to help us go over on Sat 12th. Leave noon

5. Training

  • Need to finalise accounting to make sure everyone who attended paid - SW, NK
  • The standard of people of the advanced course was too low
  • Should focus on intermediate next time, give that course the best dates
  • Committee needs to spend more time with brian, we left him on his own a bit too much this year
  • We will invite Brian back for Oct 2006

6. Club house

  • Steve to go to lands Dept to look for a lease. We pay rates, so there should be something on file
  • RC + Joe to meet Ken Woodhouse from HKR next Thurs to talk about regatta - talk about hut as well
  • We have about $340K in the bank(last year had about $260K). Could spend about $250K on new hut
  • We should ask at AGM for the right to charge up to $1000 per boat extra fee for hut. Actual amount to be decided before bill goes out in Dec

7. Trolleys

  • Need big rivets to fix cups (donated by Steve) to one set. After that we have enough

8. AGM

  • Should delay to 26th Nov, to give time to get hut related presentation ready. Might also have news from Lloyds by then as well
  • Should invite the canoe section to attend future committee meetings, rather than full committee place

Finished 9:45
