Brian Phipps’ Secret Race Skills and Tactics
UK Olympic and Youth Catamaran Coach Brian Phipps is in town. This
Sunday (20th March) Brian will be giving
away all his regatta-winning secrets at a one-day race training
course. Start line tactics, smart bouy rounding, picking the right
moment to tack – all can shave minutes off your race times
and turn you from a whiner to a winner. Application form here
Brian Phipps Personal Tuition
There are just a couple of slots left available next week for
a spot of private coaching from Brian. Spending half a day with
him can really tune up your skills on the boat, and when you’re
sailing well, you enjoy it all the more. Again, application form
on the web site here
Sailing Rules & Safety
Having the skills is one thing, but you also need to know what
you’re allowed to do, and what you mustn’t. We’ll
also cover protest etiquette for serious races, as well as reinforcing
the basic safety points we should all know. There’ll also,
no doubt, be some fascinating anecdotes from Brian’s international
competitions.
Wed 23rd March, 7:30pm on the Marina
Club Terrace. Free entrance, everyone welcome.
Novice Sailing Course
We’re training up a new batch of club trainers and they’re
raring to get at some fresh newbies. The one-day course on
Saturday April 2nd is suitable for absolute beginners. It
will cover a bit of theory, the essential safety points, but we
aim to get everyone out on the water as much as possible. Boat,
lifejackets and lunch provided, and every boat will have an experienced
sailor on board at all times.
