LBC Committee Meeting, 29 March 2006

Beginners Training on April 8, 10:00-16:00

  • 7 people signed up; maximum of 8 people
  • Boats: Tom, Richard, Cathy Lam, Joe
  • Food: Anne - chili w/rice for 14-15
  • Instructors:Jimmy Shum, Richard Carrey, Steve Wallace, Tom Nunan, Joe Shieh
  • Agenda: safety briefing-Steve, theory-Jimmy, dry land- Richard

Lloyds Race - April 15 (changed from 16th)

  • Paddlers involvement--need to work out how to manage race
  • Tom to develop more ideas
  • Food-- Anne to determine which caterer, Tim Bredbury or Philippe or ??

Sokos - April 29/30

  • Race or social sail?
  • Hope for 10 boats: Steve W, Richard C, Steve L,
  • Maybe: Pietro, Clara, Ed, Benjamin/Jimmy, Steve P, Craig, Hamish
  • Ah Wah and his Dad booked -- Tom
  • DBYC -- need to carry ice, food and carry gear for LBC
  • Possibility of LBC stopping at Cheung Chau for lunch on Satuday, otherwise bring food on board if wind is too light

Hut

  • Trees are marked for cutting, but Ken said HKR can't do it now do to public opinion.
  • Alternative plan to prioritize the replacement of the huts which may not need additional concrete or tree cutting
  • Can we concrete behind the hut to fit the showers near path
  • Task re-assigned to Weels; Craig needs to transition the project

Beach Update

  • Tie downs need to be updated
  • Consider tying the boat blocks to the tie down ropes
  • Beach maintenance guy needs a ladder -- ask Weels to make it happen

Sunshine Island - May 21

  • Grace and Joanne managing food and logistics
  • Self-cooking or catering TBD

Dragon Boat - May 31

  • First training - April 2, 11:30-12:30
  • How to manage non-members vs members conflicts over paddling on the day of the race
  • LBC members must turn up for at least one practice to guarantee their seat on race day
  • Non-members will be allocated a space if seats available on the day

Paddlers

  • Anyone who paddles needs to be a LBC canoe member family = $1200, singles= $900, joining fee = $1250
  • Outrigger team want to take over Team Fear Dragon Boat
  • Discussion about annual charges for Dragon Boat determined to be = $5000
  • Anyone can paddle no need to join club
  • Have not received social fees or joining fees from a number of outrigger paddlers
  • Small dragon boat owner Nial Greenan -- boat parking ($1000) + canoe member ($900)
  • Should outriggers be charged for boat parking and then social membership?
  • Currently have 20+ canoe members, 5 who actually own a canoe

Regatta

  • HKR have signed up for regatta in 2006 @$50,000
  • Meeting with HKR on April 12, to work out details
  • Lloyds TSB also sponsor @$16,000
  • Stormy's - Richard will ask them for $20K
  • Grappa's/El Grande - back-up plan if Stormy's fall through
  • Perrier - don't want them back, never delivered Perrier
  • Anne has been working on a lot of sponsorship activities for South Island school will provide some susggestions of new sponsors

Advertising

  • A non-member wants to advertise on web site -- $8,000 -- Steve will determine state of boat see if it is in good condition, we will allow
  • a good condition boat to be advertised as a service to the members; not a poor quality boat.
