2008 is already shaping up to be an exciting year for our club. We have more members and more types of boats than ever before. Our paddling contingent has grown in numbers and quality, and we have unparalleled interest in potential new members joining the club .
This year, our very capable and enthusiastic group of club officers has been hard at work mapping out a set of goals for the year and drafting the club calendar.
Our club objectives for 2008 are:
Promote greater participation from existing members
- Place emphasise on social opportunities that involve sailing, not purely competitive ones
- Include events which involve families
- Strive
to increase the perceived value of club membership (number of
activities, chances for social interaction, family time, fun, etc)
Focus more effort on integrating activities for ALL members
- Novice sailors
- Crew
- Paddlers
Develop talent within the club to get a larger body of competent sailors
- Training emphasis on developing solid ‘intermediate sailors’
- Vary race formats to assist in developing important sailing skills (man overboard, capsize, navigation, etc)
- Get everyone with enough knowledge of rules to race safely and competitively
- Acknowledge improvement and contribution, not just winning
- Ensure people are having fun
Strengthen ties with our community
- Develop longer-term relationship with HKR
- Involve DBYC and coordinate joint events and non-conflicting calendars
- Promote sailing, paddling and the club within DB (PR, contact info, posters, ‘Open Days’, etc)
- Donate any regatta profits to charity and market this and ‘thanks’ back to sponsors
Any ideas and comments you have are always welcome.
