Round Lantau sail
Two Dart 18s, two Hobie 16s and a NACRA F18 set off on the 29th of
December with great expectations, but only got as far as the end of DB
bay before having to resort to being towed by Awah. Lots of towing
later, the airport boundary had been reached and some wind encountered
so the boats cast off and made it to Sau Chau, seeing pink dolphins on
the way. A picnic on the beach and a walk up to the temple took long
enough for the wind to die again, so the flotilla was towed again to
Clara Ng’s house. A BBQ and mahjong game finished the day. The next
day brought some wind, but colder weather. More dolphins were seen,
but Awah had to supply more clothes to the cold crews. The boats made
it back to DB at 4pm.
Sail Vs Paddle race – 1st Jan 2008.
The first event of 2008, the (now) traditional New Year’s Day sail vs
paddle race was a resounding victory for the sailors – as no paddlers
turned up! With the excuse that no paddlers were in Hong Kong to race
(New Years Eve excesses suspected!) races for the catamarans were set.
Cold sailors were grateful to receive hot soup and mulled wine on their
return. A BBQ completed the day.
Membership Fees
You should have received your request for the 2008 subscriptions. If
you haven’t, please contact the treasurer. Please note that the fees
should have been paid by January 1st. If they haven’t been received by
March 31st, your membership will be considered expired and you will
have to pay a new joining fee. Also, until you have paid, you are not
insured. This year’s membership is valid for 15 months – to 31st March
2009 in order to align memberships with the financial year.
Boat Covers
Yet again, standing water collecting on boat covers is an issue. The
club has been warned for the final time, the next complaint will bring
a fine. At the AGM, it was voted that all vinyl boat covers will have
to be replaced with porous cloth covers by March 31st. Any non-porous
covers remaining on boats after this date will be removed. Cloth
covers are being sourced and it is expected that Dart 18 and Hobie 16
covers will be available at a cost of around $2500. Details of the
covers and an order form will be available at a later date. Owners of
other types of boats will have to arrange the manufacture of covers
themselves, but details of suppliers will be posted soon. In the
meantime, please check your boat’s cover for standing water on a
regular basis.
