Hut
renovation.
Renovation season is in full swing in
DB, and LBC doesn’t want to be left out.
The main club hut is going to get a new concrete floor – mainly because
the present aluminium (aluminum for the Commodore) floor has corroded
away. Please remove anything you are
storing in the main hut by the end of August.
In fact, while we’re on the topic, please don’t store any sails, life
preservers or paddles in the main hut.
That is what the storage hut is for.
And if you do store anything without a label, it is likely to be removed
in the periodic cleanouts.
Changes
to the club website.
As officers of the Lantau Boat Club, we
want to create a sense of community in the Club that involves everyone. In
particular want to enhance not only communication between officers and members,
but we wish to allow greater interaction among members. To this end, and
in keeping
with the social networking technology
trends, we have begun development
of an LBC member’s community site.
The site is intended to provide you with
a private area to interact, where only Club members can gain access. We will
provide limited information on this site to share among members only. This will
enable you as members to look up other members and contact them directly. We
have had frequent requests to find crew, helms, items for sale, etc. The
limiting factor for us has always been security. Now we believe we have found a
good solution for you.
You will soon be receiving an email with
your personal login ID and password (recent joiners will have already received
these). You can use these to gain access to the site and the member’s area. We
will be posting instructions on this and how to use the key features very
soon. (Please note that you will be able to change the password we give you,
but if you forget it, all we can do is reset it). For now it is about managing details of each
members profile and sharing limited data from that profile with other members.
Give it a try, as more and more, we will
be restricting certain information to members only.
Typhoon
season.
The season normally starts about now,
but as we have had three already this year, it’s safe to say it’s well under
way. The beach has changed shape with a
large trench appearing in front (or under) the front row of boats. So far, we have had one boat attempting to go
sailing without its’ owner and another boat damaged. Please check your boat is secure (covers
secure, tie downs and sails removed) and remember that your insurance is
invalid in Typhoon Signal 3 or above. So
if your boat causes damage to anyone else’s you will be liable!
Air
Canada Asian Open Regatta
This year’s Asian Open Regatta sponsored
by Air Canada is being held on the weekend of the 25th and 26th
of October and promises to be as big and as good as last year’s – and it’s
cheaper! Only $600 per boat!!! As well as Air Canada, sponsors include
Sunbrella, Fragrant Harbour and Hemingway’s by the Bay. The notice of race and entry form will be
posted on the club site and in Fragrant Harbour soon. Make a note in your diary/PDA/filofax etc.
LBC
discount at Hemingways’ by the Bay.
And while we’re on the subject of Hemingway’s
by the Bay, they are soon to start a promotion where selected regular customers
can register to receive 15% discount on food and drink. As sponsors of the Asian Open Regatta, they
will issue LBC members a discount card on receipt of a membership form. Collect your membership forms from the
restaurant.
