We’re sorry to bombard you with another flash so soon after the previous flash, but there is a lot going on right now.

Damaged Boats

A repair programme for boats damaged by Typhoon Hagupit is being organized, but due to the lack of skilled glass-fibre repairers available in time for the Asian Open Regatta, it’s probable that many boats will not be repaired in time.  For that reason and to get as many people sailing in this year’s Regatta we are compiling a list of people who want to sail and can’t, or have a boat and won’t be sailing. So, if you are in one of the following categories, please e-mail secretary@lantauboatclub.com with your details.

  • Have no boat but want to sail.  (Either helm or crew).
  • Have a boat but won’t be sailing in the Regatta and are prepared to lend it.
  • Are available to crew or help with the regatta.
  • Have a damaged hull and want to get together with an owner of a boat with the opposite damaged hull with a view to building a serviceable boat. (Please state boat type and hull!)

Please contact us as soon and we will endeavor to get as many people on the water as possible!

Club Website

Every member should have received a login and password by now.  However, we got a lot of returned mails from e-mail addresses which don’t exist.  So if you are reading this , you are a member and you haven’t received your details, please contact secretary@lantauboatclub.com to get reinstated.

Snakes!

We have spotted a couple of Cobras (snakes) around the hut in the last couple of days. If you see any, please do not try and be a hero and capture one. You may report it to DB Mgt.

Tolo Channel Regatta

We have been invited to participate in this year’s Tolo Channel Regatta on November the 16th, organized by the outward bound association of Hong Kong.  It is open to all classes of boats but will mainly be a dinghy event.  The secretary has the application forms, so if interested please contact secretary@lantauboatclub.com by the 15th October.

Soko Islands Expedition

Some of us will remember the joint LBC/DBYC Soko Islands camping trip two years ago which was part of the successful campaign to get the Government to re-think the plan of building a Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal on the Islands.  This year, to celebrate the campaign’s success – it’s happening again.  The plan is as follows:

Saturday 15th November:

  1. Race to the Sokos.

  2. Around 4 pm – Boats arrive South Soko
  3.
5 pm – BBQ fires lit (bring your own F&B)

  4. 6 pm – Sundowners on beach (of course)

  5. 8 till late – Party under the stars; live music, songs, bad behavior etc
  6. Camp out.

Sunday 16th November

:

  1. 11 am – Guided tour of South Soko; old refugee camp, ornamental lake,
secret beach, jungle walk…..

  2. After lunch – Race back to DB.

Transport will be available to take your tents, food, non sailing family members etc.  Richard has agreed to coordinate, so please contact Richard Carrey rearcommodore@lantauboatclub.com if interested.
