Air Canada Asian Open Regatta 2008

It’s now just a few days to LBC’s main event of the year and the hard work of the Regatta Committee is ensuring that this year’s event is going to be one of the best yet.  Eleven boats from our friends at the Hong Kong Hobie club arrived on the beach taking the entry number this year to well over 40. And as for the weather, to quote the HK Observatory, “Under the influence of a ridge of high pressure, the weather of southern China will be mainly fine in the next few days.  A cooler northeast monsoon is expected to reach southern China in the latter part of this week.”  It looks like it’s going to be a great weekend’s sailing.  So, if you haven’t signed up for this year’s Air Canada Asian Open Regatta  – DO SO NOW on the club website at www.lantauboatclub.com   The last entries can now be made up to the pre Regatta party, but please don’t delay if you know you can enter.

Regatta Kit

The Regatta kit has been organized and is ready for the competitors to collect at the pre-regatta party at Pier 7 Cafe (on the rooftop above the new Hong Kong side Star Ferry Pier).  Any wrong sized items can be exchanged at the Regatta.  You are reminded that you must wear the kit and display the sponsor’s logos on the stickers on your boats, otherwise you will be disqualified.  Each kit bag should have a set of the Race Instructions included, but due to technical problems, some may be missing.  If your bag doesn’t have the instructions, the instructions can be read on the club website here:  www.lantauboatclub.com/portal1/index.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_download&gid=164   All helms must read them before racing.

Boats For the Regatta

Most of the boats damaged by Typhoon Hagupit have now been fixed thanks to the amazing effort of the Commodore in organizing the repairs.  However, there are still a few sailors who want to sail who are waiting for a boat to come available.  If you have a boat and are willing to lend it, or are a boat-less sailor who wants to enter,  please contact secretary@lantauboatclub.com

Ex-Club Boats

The club Dart 18 (with the green hulls) and the Laser have both been sold to club members.  They are no longer available for other members to sail, so please do not use them as they are now privately owned.

Clubhouse

The clubhouse now has a new tiled floor.  Please try to look after the hut and keep it clean.  Also, please note that the water valve has now been moved inside.  It is now a red turning stopcock which is now situated about 8 inches from the floor in the centre of the hut.   Please make sure you turn it off after you wash your boat as the cost of letting the public wash their dogs after a swim in the sea is depleting your club’s funds!  Also, a water filtration system has been installed to provide members with a clean drinking water supply.  Use the small tap to the left of the sink.
Please note we have a number of items in the clubhouse now for the regatta. Therefore, the main hut code will be changed until after the regatta. Thank you for your understanding.
