Air Canada Asian Open Regatta

It was the windiest regatta for several years.  In fact, a little too windy on day one when several boats were damaged including one which was de-masted.  Day one provided four races while day two ws less windy and after a delayed start only one race was sailed before the
Sunbrella Round The Islands Race was started.

Congratulations to LBC winners Tom and Michele (Dart 18 Class), Jimmy and Iris (Hobie 16 class and Hobie 16 Sunbrella Race), Pietro and Maria (Dart 18 Sunbrella Race) and Choi and Joseph (Open Class Sunbrella race).  All the results and many excellent pictures can be seen on the club website www.lantauboatclub.com

And many thanks to all our sponsors, Air Canada, Sunbrella, Hemingway’s By The Bay, Fragrant Harbour and Pier 7 without whom the race would not have been possible.  Please show them your support.

Soko Islands Expedition.

Some of us will remember the joint LBC/DBYC Soko Islands camping trip two years ago which was part of the successful campaign to get the Government to re-think the plan of building a
Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal on the Islands.
This year, to celebrate the campaign’s success - it’s happening again.  The plan is as follows:

Saturday 15th November:

1.   10:30 beach start, race to the Sokos.
2.   Around 4 pm - Boats arrive South Soko
3.   5 pm - BBQ fires lit (bring your own F&B)
4.   6 pm - Sundowners on beach (of course)
5.   8 till late - Party under the stars; live music, songs, bad behavior etc

6.  Camp out.

Sunday 16th November

1.   11 am - Guided tour of South Soko; old refugee camp, ornamental lake,
secret beach, jungle walk.....
2.   After lunch – Race back to DB.

More details and pictures are available on the DBYC web site : http://www.dbyc.net/index.php/main/events/

Transport will be available to take your tents, food, etc.  Contact Richard Carrey
rearcommodore@lantauboatclub.com if you’re interested.

There are a limited number of spaces for non-sailing friends & family to get to the Sokos aboard Seafari.  Please contact them directly on info@seafari.com.hk making it clear that
you want to join the DBYC/LBC event on the 15th.  Can you also let Richard know that you have booked that as well.

Loro Piana Around The Island Race

The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club's big event of the year will be held on Sunday 23rd November.  This is your only chance to legally sail through the harbour, and with a couple of hundred boats taking part, it is a great event to be a part of.

As it is such a long race it is only suitable for experienced sailors. You will need a signature from Tom Nunan with your application to certify that you are up to the trip.

We will take our boats over on the Saturday and leave them overnight at the RHKYC  - details later.

Application form and more information, click  here .

Dart 18 share for sale.

A half share in a Dart 18 has come up for sale as the owner hardly uses it. The owner has recently paid for it to be repaired after Typhoon Hagupit so he will want a contribution to the repairs and a contribution for the parking and insurance for the year.  If interested, please e-mail secretary@lantauboatclub.com and I will pass the details onto the owner.

The weather forecast for this week end is for Force 4 to 5, so I hope to see a lot of boats on the water making the most of it!
