2009/10 Memberships
The 2008/9 membership renewals are due on 1 April 2009. The renewals will have to be done using the on-line form on the club website and payment will be either by on-line transfer or by cheque only. The form will be available soon. This year, the club group insurance will be mandatory. This is because the option for club members to provide their own insurance has in the past left members with either inappropriate or no insurance. (The club provided group insurance is also cheaper than any individual insurance which can be bought). In addition, the renewals MUST be completed by 15 March so that all the boats can be entered on the club group insurance for the group insurance start date of 1 April. Membership renewals with boats made after 15 March will attract an additional administration charge. Also, club members are reminded that any late membership renewal made after 1 April will effectively mean the member has left the club and will have to re-join the club and re-pay the joining fee.
Annual General Meeting
The AGM will be held on Monday 19 January at 1930hrs in the multi-purpose room, DB Resident's club. The meeting is expected to take one and a half hours and then the club will stand a round of drinks in one of the DB restaurants afterwards. The agenda will be published by 1930 hrs on Monday 5 January, and any items or issues club members wish to be tabled as ‘'Any Other Business'' must be sent to the secretary secretary@lantauboatclub.com by 1930hrs on Monday 12 January. Items for discussion proposed after this date will not be considered. Any club members wishing to propose themselves as club officers or current club officers who wish to resign must inform the secretary by 1930hrs on Monday 12 January.
Please let the secretary know if you can attend the AGM. For those who can't, a proxy voting form will published with the agenda.
Club Constitution
The current club constitution was written on the club's formation in 1984 and is consequently out of date and inappropriate. An amended constitution is being written and will need to be approved by the club membership at the forthcoming AGM for approval by the Hong Kong Societies Registrar. The new constitution, along with an amended set of club rules will be available for inspection at least one week prior to the AGM.
Sail hut floor renewal
You will have now noticed smart new tile floor in the clubhouse. The sail hut is going to get the same treatment and the work will start on Monday 5th Jan. Please move your sails/lifejackets/paddles from the hut to the clubhouse or your boat by Sunday evening at the latest so that the work may commence. Also, if you can lend a hand on Sunday afternoon (today) to move kit, your help will be gratefully received.
New Year's Day Sail
Thank you to everyone who participated in our New Year Day activities. It was a beautiful day on and off the water. We had 5 boats compete in a race around Siu Kau Yi Chau with some very close racing among the first 3. Tom, Michele and son Kyler edged out Clara and Keung, who were only a few seconds behind and closing fast. Choi and Iris Shum were just edged into 3rd. Also Thomas Cheng and Ed Tang were generous enough to take out some first time racers with the Club.
A wonderful BBQ meal was enjoyed by all on the beach, including a number of members who did not sail.
