Race Results

The Spring Series of Club sail racing kicked off on Sunday, and what a great day for racing! We had clear blue skies, a good 12 to 14
knot east wind and not too much chop on the water. Unfortunately the
number of boats taking advantage of this wasn’t as impressive as
previous races. That could be something to do with it being Mother’s
Day for some which is understandable (The race officer is British so
didn’t spot that when planning the calendar!). We still managed 6 boats
though, 4 H16s and 2 D18s were out on the water.

Training Day

The next club training day is on Saturday 23rd May and the course is already full.  If you can offer your services to help take people out on your boat, please contact training@lantauboatclub.com

Kayak Owners

We have more kayaks on the beach than we have registered owners.  We are trying to identify the owners of all the kayaks so that we can dispose of the ownerless ones.  Please go to the club website and look at the photos of the ones we haven’t yet identified and let the secretary@lantauboatclub.com know if one of them is yours.  We will start removing the un- owned kayaks in June.  And kayak owning sailing members – you are reminded that you can only keep your kayak under your boat for free.  If it’s parked anywhere else on the club premises, you must pay the $500 yearly parking fee.

Typhoons

Typhoon season is coming.  Please make sure your boat is secured.  If you don’t plan to sail for a while, consider dropping the mast – especially if your boat is a Hobie 16.  Also, please be ready to help out securing the beach and moving boats if it looks like Hong Kong will receive a direct hit.

Noisy Boats

We have been receiving complaints from the people living in the houses next to the beach about halyards slapping against masts in the wind keeping them awake at night.  Some of the committee have been re-tying halyards to prevent this, so if your boat is not quite as you left it, this is what may have happened.  When you de-rig your boat after sailing, please check to make sure the halyards are not loose and able to bang into the mask if it gets windy.  Main halyards should be fixed to the centre of the boat cover.

Social Secretary

The Committee post of Social Secretary is vacant.  The post entails organising social events either after racing or events, other gatherings and attending committee meetings.  If you would like to volunteer, please contact commodore@lantauboatclub.com

Wanted

A set of Dart 18 sails – any condition considered.  We have a boat on the beach without sails.  If you have a set you can sell or lend, please let the secretary@lantauboatclub.com know.

Beach Safety

Please remember that the public have right of access to the club area, so boat owners have a responsibility to ensure their boats are safe.  Recently, we have had an instance of a bottle of resin hardener being left out.  Luckily, it was found by a club member and not a child.  Also, owners of boats with spinnakers must make sure the spinnaker pole has something attached to make it stand out so that people do not walk into it.  Orange stickers have been attached to some already, please do not remove them.

Other Beach Matters

Please do not leave wet clothing and equipment hanging up in the clubhouse and sail hut to dry out.  It leaves a mess.

Also, please be reminded that only the foam blocks are to be used to rest boats on.  Tyres are not allowed as they collect water and encourage the breeding of mosquitoes.  We lost quite a few of the blocks during last years’ storms.  More are on order so there will soon be enough for every boat.

One of the fridges in the main hut will be locked to store club stock.  The present system of having an honesty box is not working.  Only Committee members will have keys so one will have to be present for the club stock to be used.  The other fridge will be kept unlocked for members to keep their own food and drink cool while they are on the water.
