Club Rules

There have been a few changes to the Club Rules.  These are mainly aimed at improving the safety aspects of the club operation after a couple of incidents we have had recently.  The rules are on the member info page in the documents section and you have to log in to read them.  Also, they can be read here by clicking (insert link).  The changes are in italics and a quick summary of the changes are listed below.

  • Members who join after the end of September can pay half a year’s subscription.
  • Advice included that weather conditions should be checked before participating in water sports.
  • Advice that members should not participate in water sports when a Typhoon signal 3 is hoisted.
  • Advice that members should let someone know they are participating in water sports and should contact them as soon as they make landfall.
  • Rules regulating the sale of boats to non club members when the boats are remaining on the beach at Discovery Bay.

There are also a few minor changes, mainly relating to terminology.  If you can’t log in or have forgotten your log in, please contact secretary@lantauboatclub.com to get it re-set.

ABC Opening Regatta

The ever-popular ABC Sunseeker Opening regatta, put on by the Aberdeen Boat Club, will take place on 5-6 Sept. We have had numerous members already signup. If you are interested in racing in the first ‘big’ regatta of the year in Hong Kong, you had better sign up now.

All info and detail can be found on the ABC website . There are 2 divisions for Beach Cat: Hobie Tiger and Other Multihulls. Come and enjoy a good weekend of racing. 2 races are to be held on Saturday, and one long distance race on Sunday. Parties are always a highlight.

We will be leaving the beach at 8am on Saturday morning…SHARP! I will be a very long day out on the water. You should bring food for lunch and plenty of water or other drinks. Our division will start the first race at 12:05pm out on the other side of Lamma, so we must leave early. If you wish to have support (via Awah), you must be ready to leave the LBC Club by 8am on Saturday morning.

Foam Blocks

A new order of foam blocks has arrived to replace the ones we lost in last year’s Typhoons, so there should be more than enough to place under all the boats.  Members are reminded that under no circumstances should boats be placed on tyres. Our beachmaster, Neels, has once again taken time out of his weekend to fix up the beach with new hoses and patched-up boats wheels. If you break something at the Club, please take responsibility to fix it. At least, please report the issue to the officers of the Club . Oh…and please thank Neels for his efforts when you next see him.

Training day

Many thanks to all those club members who helped out on the training day on August 16th.  It was a small affair with only five students due to the number of people away over the summer.  The next one is on September 20th and if you are willing and able to help out, please contact Jeremy Blackwell at training@lantauboatclub.com
