Loro Piana Around the Island Race

Sunday, Nov 19th Save the Date: RHKYC is holding the annual Around the Island Race in November. Deadline for registrations is November 13. Race and registration info here. Endorsement from either Richard or Tom

Participants from LBC will sail over to RHKYC in Causeway Bay on Saturday, Nov. 18, 11am with Ah Wah for safety cover through the harbour. Please respond to this email if you plan to participate in this race and will sail over on Saturday so we can make sure we have adequate coverage.

Annual General Meeting

Saturday, Nov. 25th , 7:00 pm
Our Annual Meeting to review the past year and select new officers for 2007 will take place on the 25th of this month at the DB Residents Club. This is an important meeting and is open to all members of LBC, though only full boat-owning members may vote. This meeting always includes some lively debates and is the members’ opportunity to voice their concerns or priorities for the direction of the club. It is also your chance to volunteer to help on the committee. The club has continued to grow and prosper because members volunteer their time and talents to making it work. We need your help!

If you cannot attend, but would like to assign your vote to someone who will be there, proxy forms will be made available on the web site. Print it out, designate the member who will vote on your behalf, then drop it into the mailbox at the DB Residents Club.

Christmas Party

Saturday, Dec. 2nd
Save the Date: LBC will be holding its annual Christmas party, though with a different format this year. This time we will have a more casual party atmosphere (not black tie), we will bring it into DB at Club Sienna, and have booked the band Skin Deep to play. More details after the regatta.

Regatta Wrap-up

Another great regatta!
The culmination of months of planning finally arrived this past weekend with the Discovery Bay Asian Open Regatta 2006. Although we could have used a bit more wind, we still managed to have a couple great days, 2 excellent dinners, some great kit and trophies, a few stories, and plenty of competitive fun while enjoying the water and scenery of Hong Kong.

Thanks to our sponsors: DBay (Hong Kong Resorts), Polaroid, Links Relocation, Lloyds TSB, Stormies (Igor’s Group), Fragrant Harbour, Neil Pryde, EATware, and Blue Fin Sea Sports.

Thanks to our volunteer race officer, Bo Fussing, and volunteer safety officer, Kevin Lewis, and to everyone who supported them on the committee boat, on the safety boats, and on the beach.

Thanks to the LBC committee members who put in hours of (unpaid) work to make it all happen: Joe Shieh, Richard Carrey, and Anne Ludlow, in addition to Beach Masters Wayne and Neels who put in overtime to make sure the facility was ready to go in time.

If you haven’t discovered already, the fleet results are posted here and overall results are posted here. Photos are being uploaded here. Feel free to add upload your own photos to the gallery.

General News

Thanks Brian!

After 2.5 weeks training at LBC, Brian is headed home. The Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank Brian for once again coming to Hong Kong and continuing to improve the sailing skills of our members. Of course we also enjoy his presence in the regatta as he gives many of us a clear example (or target) to aim for. In addition to the classes and private coaching for adults, Brian extended his stay and spent 3 days teaching some of the children of LBC members. If you have children interested in learning to sail a catamaran, we can arrange more of these classes in the future. Just let us know!

Missing Parts to a Dart – Please return

It seems that a number of things were taken from one of our member’s boat over the weekend who would like to see them returned. Perhaps you borrowed them temporarily and forgot to put them back. Please do so immediately or contact Adrian to let him know when you will. The boat belongs to: Adrian Scott, sail #3317, 2nd row from beach, 4th from the clubhouse, with a torn cover, and mast down. He can be reached at: aidski@netvigator.com

Items borrowed:

  • Original rudders were taken and replaced with a set in worse (useless) condition
  • One hatch cover
  • An ‘Adult Saver’ life jacket
  • A complete trapeze harness assembly – wire, hook ring etc.
