Item 1: Commodore’s Address
The Commodore welcomed the committee members to the meeting.
Item 2: Previous Meeting’s Minutes
The previous meeting’s minutes were read and it was agreed that they were
an accurate record of the meeting. There are no outstanding action items.
Item 3: Asian Open Regatta
The 2009 Air Canada Asian Open Regatta was a success despite there only
being enough wind for racing on the first day. Letters of thanks are going
out to each sponsor.
Item 4: Membership Issues.
A message in a previous flash encouraged people to sell ½ shares in their boats and several shares were sold attracting new members. The next phase is to warn people who have not sailed this year that as the LBC’s stated aim is to promote sailing, they may not have their membership renewed next year and their boats must be removed from the beach. This is will allow new members to bring boats to the beach.
Concern was expressed that there may be some complaints but the Secretary pointed out that the recent change in the Constitution allowed the Committee to refuse membership and remove boats, and also that now the Constitution has been approved by the HKSAR Associations Secretary, it is now a by-law of Hong Kong, there is legal backing for such actions.
The next step is to warn LBC members that they risk not having their membership renewed in a flash message and also to send out letters to the owners of boats which have not sailed in the last year telling them that their membership may not be accepted.
The Commodore then mentioned that there were a lot of old boats on the beach and that them being sold on to new owners was counter- productive in that the fleet was no longer competitive, which led to the new owners getting discouraged. The only viable alternative currently available in Hong Kong is for sailors to purchase is the Hobie 16, but this was an old design. An alternative should be investigated with the aim of a bulk purchase for import to re-vitalize the LBC fleet.
Action: Commodore and Secretary
Item 5: Christmas Party.
The poll on the club website indicated that club members wanted a Christmas party, but not a formal Black Tie event. It was agreed that the best option was to have an informal get together in Central.
Item 6: Any Other Business
There was no other business.
Item 7: Next Meeting.
