Racing – Just too Cold?

The last race of 2009 was frozen out… it seems that beach cat racers prefer warm weather. Hmmm, I can’t imagine why.  A new racing calendar will be published soon.  Now would be a good time to do some maintenance on your boat to get it ready for this year’s racing.

2010 memberships

This year’s memberships are due for renewal by March 31st and the on-line application form will be on the website soon.  But boat owners must have their memberships paid by March 14th so that the Insurance premium can be paid to the Insurance Company by the due date of April.  Any insurance payments after March 14th will attract an additional $500 late insurance charge which the Club will have to pass onto the member concerned.

This year, payment will only be accepted by either Cheque or Internet transfer.  ATM transfers cannot be accepted because we have the problem of members not putting enough information on the transfer detail and the Treasurer not being able to match payments to members.  However, cash payments may also be made to Anne Ludlow who will be in DB Plaza outside Uncle Russ’s Coffee from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday of March 14th. A laptop will also be made available for those without Internet connectivity or if a little assistance is needed.

2010 LBC Committee

We will be taking nominations for all Officer positions before the next AGM. The main roles that must be elected at that time are: Commodore, Treasurer, Secretary. Current officers will be stepping down and may or may not be standing again for a position. If interested in any role, you will need to register your intent. Please send your nomination to info@lantauboatclub.com

Boats

There are a number of boats at the club which have not been sailed in 2009, and several which have not been in a sail-able condition for some time.  This is particularly disappointing for those on the list of prospective members who want to join and bring a new boat to the Club. As you may know, the limit of 70 boats set by Hong Kong resorts has been reached and we cannot take more boats.  Members are reminded that the Club’s stated aim is to promote non-powered water-sports.  It is not a low cost boat storage facility.  There are commercial clubs in Hong Kong which cater for that.

All memberships and member renewals are at the discretion of the Committee, and this year we will be proactively encouraging our new members.  This means if you are not an active member of the Club and have not sailed for some time, your membership may not be renewed and you will be asked to move your boat from the beach.

If you haven’t sailed much in 2009, please ask yourself if you are going to sail in 2010.  If the answer is no, please consider selling your boat.  Advertising on the Club website is free while you are a member and we have keen members who want boats.

Club Security

Very recently, an attempt was made to break into the locked fridge in the clubhouse.  The perpetrators must have had the door combination as the door hadn’t been forced.  The door combination will be changed very soon.  Please do not give it to anyone who is not a club member.

Beach matters

The beach is starting to get very untidy with torn boat covers and sail-boxes being left lying around.  Club members are reminded that boxes must be placed under the owner’s boats.  There are still cases of halyards banging against masts in the wind causing a noise nuisance to the local residents.

Also please make sure that the water is turned off from inside the clubhouse when you leave the beach.  Recently, all the taps were turned on and left running overnight.  This cost the Club a lot of money.

If you are working on your boat, please make sure that you do not leave anything dangerous out where children can find it.  Recently, we had another bottle of resin hardener left out.  Hardener is an organic peroxide and is extremely corrosive. Getting it in an eye will probably cause blindness. Children find the boat park an interesting place to play, please do not contribute to an accident.
