Social Sail on Saturday afternoon, 27 Feb

Join us for a fun, relaxing sail around the waters outside of Discovery Bay. Come down to the beach in the early afternoon and we will see who wants to go out. At least 3 boats already confirmed, but more welcome!

Perfect chance to dust off your boat and test her back in the water if you have been busy hiding from the cold this Winter.

Cheung Chau Challenge

As mentioned in the last flash, this exciting racing weekend is coming up fast.

This is our annual Club vs. Club challenge weekend.  The LBC (sailing Darts & Hobie 16s) will take on The HK Hobie Club (sailing Hobie 16s). There will also be some long distance races for the F18 fleet.  Sailors can stay overnight on Cheung Chau (the Warwick Hotel is right by the sailing beach – please see special accommodation offer from the Warwick Hotel in the Flash) and enjoy a seafood dinner and an evening of merrymaking along with the racing. Everyone is welcome to join in the Challenge, so find yourself a boat and crew and join in this classic event.

Schedule:

  • Saturday morning – 10am Sail from LBC to Cheung Chau.
  • Saturday afternoon – racing off of East side of Cheung Chau
  • Saturday night – drinks, seafood dinner, more drinks :-)
  • Sunday morning – A few more races
  • Sunday afternoon- lunch, prize-giving, then sail back to DB.

You must register your interest to join the event! Send an email to racing@lantauboatclub.com and you will receive details of accommodation and schedules.

Race Practice

It seems at the beginning of each year, we need time to get back into the swing of competitive sailing. In order to allow for this and prepare for the Cheung Chau Challenge (above), we will have a special practice session on 7 March. Come out early to check on your boat. This is a perfect chance for veterans to race tune their boats against other racers, and for newer sailors to learn a bit more about racing! Everyone is welcome.

11am depart DB beach. Sunday, 7 March

Committee Posts

Two committee members will be stepping down this year.  Jeremy Blackwell will be resigning the Training position and Gabriel Kicks the Race Officer post.  Also, the job of Social Secretary is vacant.  If you think you may want to take any of these positions, they will be voted on at the next Annual General Meeting which will be held in about two months.  All the Committee posts will be voted on.  If you wish to stand for the key positions of Commodore, Treasurer or Secretary, you must inform the secretary before the meeting as the Hong Kong Societies Registrar needs to be informed of any changes to these.
Also, volunteers are required to fill the new posts of Deputy Treasurer and Deputy Secretary.  These are not full committee posts, but designed to assist the Treasurer and Secretary and to understudy the positions with a view to taking over in the future.  If interested, please contact the secretary.
