Annual General Meeting

The 2010 AGM will be held on Tuesday 25th May at 7.30PM in the Multi Purpose Hall on the ground floor of the Discovery Bay Management Offices.  As with last year, we aim to have a short meeting followed by a social event in one of the Discovery Bay Restaurants where the Club will buy a round of drinks and provide some food.  If you have any items you would like to see on the agenda, please send them to the Secretary.  We will of course be voting on members to fill the Club committee positions.  At the moment, two posts remain vacant.  One is Race Officer, the other Vice Commodore Regatta. But of course you can bid for any of the posts.   If you think you would like to put yourself up for election, please contact the Secretary.

Mothers Day Sail

We Plan to sail/paddle over to Mui Wo this Sunday to celebrate Mother’s Day, have some lunch and generally enjoy each other’s company.  We have already made a reservation at the China Beach Club for 1pm. Therefore, we will need to leave the beach by 11-11:30am or so, if we want to enjoy a little bit of water time first. We will decide our route based on the wind (for sailors). Kids welcome too. In the end, we will all meet in Mui Wo by 12:30-1pm. We have made a reservation for 20 people. There are 7 spots left at this time. First come first served for reserved seats!

Please note that you do NOT need to have lunch at the China Beach Club in order to join us for the social sail.  Please respond immediately to mother@lantauboatclub.com if interested and COMMITTED.

Sunshine Island

The annual sail and BBQ to Sunshine Island is going to be on Saturday 12th June.  Meet on the beach at 10am for a race to the Island. Separate divisions for paddling and sailing will be held. Bring your own food for the BBQ (Drinks provided) and race back.  Non sailing/paddling members may be able to travel on Awah’s boat.

This is an outstanding event for the entire family and is always very well attended. Please join us…mark your calendar now.

There is no cost to members. Non-members are asked to make a HK$100 contribution.

Beach Matters

The beach is looking untidy with torn boat covers and sail boxes lying around and this has attracted adverse comments.  Boat owners are responsible for keeping their boats neat and tidy and sail boxes must be kept under boats. The Committee must intervene since members have been unable to manage this on their own. Some members will be receiving warnings from the Committee.

Recently, a club member bought a new boat and attempted to bring it to the beach without prior permission, and notifying the Beachmaster when it was already on the beach.  The Club has a limit of 70 boats set by Hong Kong Resorts, the owners of Discovery Bay and we have been at this number for some time.  We have a waiting list of sailors wanting to bring their boats to the Club, so any member who buys a new boat must remove their old boat from the beach and not just sell it on to another member without informing the Committee.  The Club rules are quite clear about this matter.

Lost Money

After the training last Saturday, a sum of money was left in the clubhouse.  If you think it is yours, please contact the Secretary with the details.
