Typhoon Megi Update – Thursday PM

Megi has changed course slightly and is now predicted to pass to the East between 150 to 180nm away, being at it’s closest on Saturday morning.  However, it is still the most powerful Typhoon this season and the HK Observatory are predicting winds of up to force 8 tomorrow and Saturday, so the chances of the T8 signal being hoisted are still high.  The winds will be predominantly Northerly backing to North-westerly, so Tai Pak bay will be relatively sheltered.  And although high tide will be 2.3m at 1800L on Friday, the wind and low pressure could still increase this. Therefore the Committee has decided to take precautions and move the remaining boats on the beach.

Please come to the beach tonight from 5pm to help.

We have made a new arrangement with the DB management regarding the parking of boats in Seahorse lane during Typhoons.  They have now agreed to let us use the grass area to the South of the management office at the end of the short road leading to the beach, but all boats being parked there and on the grass verges to the side of the road behind the toilet block must follow procedures:

  1. The owner must leave their boat details and their contact number at the management office.
  2. Boats placed on the grass area to the South of the management office must be placed as far back as possible.
  3. The mast must be lowered and tied to both beams.  No equipment must be left on the boat and the covers must be removed.  The covers, rudders and dagger-boards may be left in the hut providing they are rolled up neatly in the cover and labelled with the boat number and owner’s name.
  4. Boats left in all these locations must be tied together.
  5. Boats must be relocated to the beach three days after the typhoon has passed, otherwise the DB Management will remove them.
