Air Canada Asian Open Regatta

What a weekend – it was the best wind we have ever had at the AOR!  Congratulations to all the winners and many thanks to all who helped organise the event, particularly Steve Wallace for his excellent organisation and also to Brian Phipps who volunteered to be the Race Officer for the event.  And of course, thanks to our sponsors as well.  Air Canada, Hemingways by the Bay, Fragrant Harbour, RT Zan and Tibet Spring without whose help the event could not have taken place.

LBC Christmas Party

LBC Christmas Party is highlight of the year. This year the party will be held at Airport World Trade Centre Club on 4th December starting from 7pm. It will be a black tie party including a dinner buffet. The dinner buffet includes unlimited drinks, Chinese and Western food. There will also be live band performance, lucky draws and games. Parking is available at P2 in the airport. Tickets are $800 per person. People are welcome to come with their partner, family and friends. Interested parties please contact Jade Wong, our social secretary, atsocial@lantauboatclub.com to book tickets.

The Lantau Island Rowing Club

Those of you who attended the AGM will remember that a number of DB residents want to form a rowing club and have asked it to be based  at the beach as part of the LBC much in the way that the Outrigger Canoe Club is.  Permission has been obtained from Hong Kong resorts to construct a rack to store boats and the LBC members will have to decide if we want to invite them to join.  For this a vote will be taken at an Extraordinary General Meeting which will be held on Tuesday 23rd November at 8pm in the Multi Purpose Hall in the DB management offices.

You can see a précis of rowing in Hong Kong, a series of Question and Answers and the draft of the agreement which will be signed between the two Clubs (if passed) in the Club Information part of the Documents Section on the Club Website.  Also a thread has been started on the Discussion Page for people to air their views and ask further questions.  A proxy voting form will be put on the website as well.

Hong Kong Youth Hobie 16 Regatta

The youth regatta will take place at DB on the 11th and 12th of December and at Cheung Chau on the 1st and 2nd of January.  Open to all those under 19 years of age, the aim is to select the Hong Kong representatives for the youth worlds.  Entries must be in by the 1st of December and can be made to racing@lantauboatclub.com

Beach Matters

We have had recent complaints from DB management about the tidiness of the beach.  Boat owners are responsible for their boat, particularly in making sure that their cover are in good condition and doesn’t collect water and that all their equipment is stored neatly.  Sail boxes must be placed under boats and not left lying around the club premises.  This last item has attracted particular notice as it has been commented that they look like coffins – and the residents don’t like this as it can bring bad luck!  Also, please make sure that when you park your boat that halyards and other lines are not free to slap into the mast in the wind as the noise keeps the local residents awake at night.  Hobie 16s seem to be the biggest culprits in this case.

Hobie Club Pirate Party

Hobie Club is going to hold the last event of the year on 27th November. It will be a pirate party including a suckling pig BBQ buffet at the Hong Kong Golf Club, Deepwater Bay starting from 7pm. Tickets are $308 per person. Both Hobie Club and LBC members are welcome to join whereas it is a good chance for 2 clubs to build deeper relationship. Interested parties please contact Chris Howarth, club secretary of Hobie Club, to book tickets.
