Commodore’s BBQ April 14
All LBC sailors, paddlers, and rowers are invited to our annual Commodore’s Barbeque, to be held at the LBC Clubhouse on the afternoon of Saturday, April 14, starting around 1300. Last year’s BBQ was a wonderful social occasion that helped kick off the warm weather water sports season. Come down to the beach and meet our newly inaugurated Commodore and General Committee.
Welcome New Officers!
Congratulations and welcome to our newly inaugurated Commodore, Andy Keith, and also to new General Committee members Alexandra Nitsch (Vice Commodore), Martin Kidgell (co-Beachmaster), and James Ford (Sailing Chairperson). Continuing in their posts from last year are Chris Fraser (Secretary), Don Nettleton (Treasurer), James Branch (Beachmaster), Joost Ameye (LIOCC representative), and Bob Wilson (LIRC representative).
Under LBC’s new structure, sailing-specific affairs will now be managed by a newly established Sailing Committee. James Ford is our new Sailing Chairperson, Christoph Merz is continuing as Race Officer, Rear Commodore Joe Shieh is now our Regatta Chairperson, and Julia Ford is our Social Secretary. A further position, Training Officer, remains open.
Contact information for all club officers can be found on this webpage.
New Commodore’s Greeting
I look forward to the club continuing to thrive and grow, and with the new constitution we now have the means to grow together as one club made up of three mutually supportive sections. We look forward to the rowers continuing to grow and establish DB as a great rowing centre. We are proud that the paddlers continue their journey to be the club of choice for outriggers in HK, and we are excited at the arrival of new members and boats to the beach.
Each of the sections have wonderful opportunities this year to be active on the water, to be active socially, and to actively support each section and the club as a whole. The Committee are looking forward to LBC having a really fantastic year on the water as one club. I look forward to welcoming all members and friends of LBC to the Commodore's BBQ on April 14. Life's a beach! — Andy Keith, LBC Commodore
April Club Racing
We have a full schedule of club sailing races coming up this month. On Wednesday, April 4, we’ll hold our first Holiday Series event (briefing at 1100). Easter Series #2 will be held on Saturday, April 14, with racing finishing up just in time for a hearty lunch at the Commodore’s BBQ. The next day, Sunday April 15, Hong Kong’s F18 Class Association will run F18 races from LBC, and more F18 racing may be held Saturday, April 21 (to be confirmed). Finally, the concluding leg of the Easter Series is scheduled for Saturday, April 28.
2012 Membership Renewal
A few LBC members have missed the membership renewal deadline of March 31 and will need to pay the late fee. If you intend to but have not yet renewed your membership, please do so right away. Detailed information is available on this page.
Club Rules and Constitution
At our 2012 AGM, LBC members approved a new set of club bylaws, along with a Memorandum and Articles of Association that serve as our new club constitution. As part of our membership agreement, all LBC members agree to abide by these articles and bylaws. For members’ reference, the latest version of the bylaws is posted here and the provisional drafts of the Memorandum and Articles are posted here.
Help Needed Thursday, April 5
LBC will be taking delivery of some attractive outdoor furniture on Thursday afternoon, April 5, and we need a few pairs of hands for about one hour to help unload and move the items. If you are available to help, please email the Secretary (secretary@lantauboatclub.com).
Our deep thanks to Grace Carrey, Mark Basford, and Blume Living for arranging this gift to the club.
Unidentified Kayaks
There are still a few unidentified kayaks in the back row of our boat park. Details are here. If one of these may be yours, please contact the Secretary (secretary@lantauboatclub.com).
Many members have asked about purchasing one of these kayaks if they remain unclaimed. The General Committee may arrange an auction of unclaimed kayaks in mid to late April. Another possibility is that the Club may take ownership of several kayaks and lease them to members by the day or half-day.
Missing Kayak
An orange Wilderness Systems sit-on-top kayak (similar to photo below) stored on the canoe/kayak rack by the sail hut has gone missing. If you have seen this kayak or know its whereabouts, please contact Andrew Dempsey (afdempsey@gmail.com).
