Boat Parking

No boats may be brought onto club premises without first notifying the Secretary (secretary@lantauboatclub.com) to determine whether a parking space is available. This rule applies to all sailboats and to all canoes and kayaks stored on the boat racks and ground alongside the racks. LBC's boat parking spaces are often oversubscribed, and we typically have several people waiting for spaces at any one time.

Sailboats

Since LBC's boat park is almost always at or near full capacity, we are unable to accept many new boats. Most sailboats at the club are acquired by purchasing a pre-owned one from another member. The Marketplace section of this web site advertises boats for sale. Prospective members may also consult the Beachmaster or Secretary about boats coming up for sale that are not yet advertised. It is up to individual members or prospective members to make decisions about the type of boat, price, and other matters with the seller. The club does not get involved in boat sales or act as intermediary.

All boats purchased or brought into the club must be insured through the club's group insurance policy.

Before bringing a new boat into the club or replacing an existing boat, members or prospective members must notify the club Secretary (secretary@lantauboatclub.com).

As of June 2011, the LBC Committee has adopted two guidelines regarding new boats coming into the club. (1) New boats may be brought in without waiting for a space only if the owner removes a similar old boat in the process, thus creating an empty space and leaving the total number of occupied spaces unchanged. (2) In all other cases, new boats may be brought in only after the Committee approves a parking space, which will be allocated according to a public waiting list. To inquire about or be placed on the waiting list, please contact the Secretary.

Kayaks and Canoes

Outrigger canoe (OC1) and kayak parking space is also limited and subject to a waiting list. To inquire about bringing a canoe or kayak into the club, contact the Secretary. An annual fee is charged for storage on the boat racks or the ground area alongside them.

Owners of catamarans are permitted to store one canoe or kayak under their catamaran free of charge. Canoes or kayaks may be stored under catamarans without notifying LBC.

Boat rental

With the exception of the LIOCC outrigger canoes and LIRC rowing boats, all boats at LBC are privately owned. No boats are available for rental. However, many owners are willing to take on newcomers who show a keen interest in learning to sail. You can check or post in our “Find Crew” section for opportunities.
