The LBC Rowing Section began as the Lantau Island Rowing Club, founded on 7 December 2010 by 8 rowing enthusiasts to promote the sport of coastal rowing in Hong Kong and provide opportunities to participate in coastal rowing in Discovery Bay. LIRC merged with Lantau Boat Club in February 2013.
Lantau Boat Club is affiliated with the Hong Kong, China Rowing Association, the governing body of rowing in Hong Kong, who has been instrumental, through its Coastal Rowing Committee, in identifying potential locations for coastal rowing in Hong Kong, and assisted LIRC with the loan of boats and oars to get rowing started in Discovery Bay, before LIRC was able to purchase its own equipment at the end of 2011. As of today, the total fleet of boats comprises two coxed quads/fours, two coastal doubles, two coastal singles, and three training singles.
LBC Rowing celebrated its 5th anniversary “ROWING IN DB” in December 2015, with a number of rowing outings, a tasty BBQ, a birthday cake (Thanks Tess!) and bubbles.
